Scout Merit Badge Program 2016 – 17

Scouts banner 2016-17 

Hey, Scouts, add a different badge to your sash the second Saturday of each month September – June. These fun, hands-on programs are for ages 10 – 17 and are $30 per Scout per program.

Forestry
Sept. 10 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center
Learn how trees change as they grow, how people use and depend on them, and how to identify common Illinois species.

Bird Study
Oct 8 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Willowbrook Wildlife Center
Learn about bird anatomy and identification -- including songs -- and find out how to use binoculars and field guides.

Nature
Nov. 12 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center
Explore the connections between soil, plants and animals.

Mammal Study
Dec. 10 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Willowbrook Wildlife Center
Spend time in the woods learning about mammals and the features that distinguish them from other animals.

Architecture
Jan. 14 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Mayslake Peabody Estate
Learn about architecture and building use and design, and discover how buildings influence the community.

Animal Science
Feb. 11 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Kline Creek Farm
At this working 1890s living history farm, learn the merits and uses of heritage and other livestock breeds and discuss proper planning and management.

Geology
March 11 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center
Explore the world of minerals, rocks and fossils of northeastern Illinois.

Fishing
April 8 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve
Join a District ranger and learn about equipment and fish identification, safety, first aid, knot tying, sportsmanship, and ethical angling.

Fish and Wildlife
May 13 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center
Investigate how ecologists manage wildlife in DuPage County's urban environment and participate in a project to help wild animals that live in the forest preserves.

Insect Study
June 10 • 9 a.m. – Noon • Mayslake Peabody Estate
By investigating and observing live insects, learn about insect adaptations, the important role these creatures play on the planet, and how to develop skills for further studies.
