Willowbrook Wildlife Center Master Plan — Phase 1 Improvements
In March 2011 the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Board of Commissioners approved a new master plan for Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Currently, the District is moving forward with the first phase of improvements outlined in the Willowbrook Wildlife Center Master Plan.
These improvements include a new, enlarged permeable-paver parking lot to accommodate increased visitation, the expansion and renovation of an existing support building, and the construction of new space to house the District’s native species recovery program. At first this new space will serve as office space for the center; it will temporarily house Willowbrook’s staff until further build-out of the master plan is complete.
Funding for the master plan improvements were provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s reassignment of $3 million of land-acquisition grant funds. The balance will come from other secured donations.
