Someone to Know: Wayne Hill

Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago provides visitors with the opportunity to experience life on a DuPage Counny farm in the 1890s. Wayne Hill helps visitors travel back in time and better understand their journey as a heritage interpreter at Kline Creek Farm. A history buff who enjoys nature’s variety, Hill thinks summer time to be the best time of year to connect and interact with guests.

What are some of your responsibilities as a heritage interpreter at Kline Creek Farm?
I have many responsibilities at the farm, but my favorite is interpreting social and cultural history of the 1890s to the public. interpretation to the public would have to be my favorite, though. I enjoy teaching history in both a historical context and a contemporary way.

What is your favorite activity to do within the preserves?
I enjoy providing historical reference to Kline Creek Farm’s special events such as “The Glorious Fourth,” “Corn Harvest,” “Country Fair,’ “Ice Harvest” and “A Day at the Farm.” I have a good knowledge base of the 1890s and a delivery style that most people enjoy.

What is your favorite season in the preserves?
My favorite season in the preserves would have to be summer because it is the District’s busiest time of year, as well as the most active.

What three words best describe you?
Fun, happy and smiley. I believe these traits make learning new things simple and easy.

What inspires you in nature?
The variety of life in nature inspires me to learn more about its vastness.
